Omar assures help for Jharkhand workers trapped in Leh

Around 15,000 workers from the state are trapped in Leh after the cloudburst

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that his government would take all possible help to ensure the welfare of labourers from Jharkhand, who went to Leh to work in construction companies, stuck there after the cloud burst hit that region.

Abdullah?s assurance came after a JMM delegation headed by its legislative party leader Hemant Soren met him in Srinagar and sought assistance to the trapped labour force after the cloud burst that hit Leh recently, a JMM press release mailed from Srinagar said here.

"About 15,000 labourers from Jharkhand, particularly from the Santhal Pargana region of the state, have gone to work in various construction works in Leh.

Efforts should be made to know about their conditions and convey the same to their families and relatives staying in Jharkhand," Soren told Abdullah while handing over a memorandum in this regard.

"They should also be given financial assistance," he added.

The J&K CM said that his government would take all possible steps to help them and information of their well-being would be communicated through media.
