Out of a batch of 108, 63 were cleared for empanelment, posting from November

GN Bureau | July 28, 2010

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday signed the files to promote 43 IAS officers of the   1980 batch as additional secretaries to the Government of India.

On Tuesday the prime minister consulted his aide TKA Nair and cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar before clearing the promotions. The batch strength is 108, out of which 63 wee taken up for empanelment and only 43 approved by the EPG (eminent persons group) headed by P Shankar.

The EPG made the task of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet easier
as it went through the ACRs and performances of the entire 1980 batch and made its recommendations.

The cabinet secretariat will now begin processing and posting these new additional secretaries from November 2010.

It may be recalled that the prime minister just recently approved the 1977 batch for the post of secretaries to Government of India.  There was criticism on the procedure of empanelment from a section of the 1977 and 1980 batch officers but the same was overruled by the ACC.
