PM recasts inter-state council

Standing committee also reconstituted

The prime minister on Wednesday recast the inter-state council, the highest body for settlement of the centre-states disputes,ahead of its likely meeting in November and also reconstituted its standing committee with home minister P Chidambaram as its chairman.

The new council, headed by Dr Manmohan Singh, has all the chief ministers and six union ministers -- Pranab Mukherjee, Sharad Pawar, P Chidambaram, M Veerappa Moily, Kamal Nath and Dinesh Trivedi as its members.

Six other union ministers who have been made permanent invitees to the council meetings are Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sushil Kumar Shinde, S Jaipal Reddy, C P Joshi, M K Alagiri and Salman Khurshid.

The standing committee of the council, headed by Chidambaram, has seven union ministers and nine chief ministers as its members. The chief ministers of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Orissa, Tripura, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Mizoram are the members.

The union ministers on the standing committee are Mukherjee, Pawar, Moily, Khurshid, Trivedi and M K Alagiri.
