Railway factories coming at Rae Bareily, Chapra

A coach factory at Rae Bareily and a wheel manufacturing unit at Chapra coming in the next two years

The rail coach factory project at Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh and wheel manufacturing plant at Chapra in Bihar will be completed in the next two years, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee informed Rajya Sabha today.

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, she said the Rs 1,417 crore Bihar project was sanctioned in 2005-06 and is likely to start manufacturing wheels from 2011-12.

She said the rail coach factory project at Rae Bareli was approved in 2006-07 at a cost of Rs 1,685 crore and work is going on in full swing.

The first phase of this project is likely to be completed by July 2011 and the entire project would be completed by 2012-13, she said.

Banerjee said the rail coach factory at Kanchrapara in West Bengal was approved this year itself and it will be set up through joint venture at a cost of Rs 860.16 crore. Land for the factory has been identified and work is in progress, she said.

She also said that an electric locomotive factory was approved for Madhepura in Bihar in 2007-08 at a cost of Rs 1,293.57 crore. The government has that it will be set up through joint venture.
