Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh will visit Mumbai later this month to get a first hand review of Environmental and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) regulations in respect of various developmental issues in the metropolis.

Union Minister of State for Communications and IT Gurudas Kamat, who represents Mumbai North West parliamentary constituency met Ramesh in Delhi today to discuss in detail various impediments in the development of Mumbai due to CRZ regulations.

Kamat said the regulations needed to be diluted to expand the road infrastructure and expedite re-development of several colonies and slums.

He had in a letter sent to Ramesh on July 26, urged for the clearance of Navi Mumbai International Airport as well as asked for dilution of CRZ Rules which have affected redevelopment of poor and middle income colonies and slums.

Kamat said the Versova?Goregaon Link Road, redevelopment of Bangur Nagar in Goregaon and Sardar Vallabhai Patel Nagar in Versova had been stalled.

The minister invited Ramesh for on-the-site inspection to get a fair idea and stated that the environment minister's proposal where 51 per cent Government/MHADA participation was insisted upon, was not workable as per his (Kamat?s) estimate.

He argued with Ramesh that only a personal visit to the different locations with concerned officials of the Central and state Government will help him realise the ground reality.

Ramesh has agreed to visit Mumbai in the last week of August.
