Union minister Farooq Abdullah on Monday warned people against forces exploiting religion at the time of elections for political mileage.

In a veiled attack on BJP for its promises to build the Ram Temple in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Abdullah said, "Go and build, why announcing this at the time of elections."

"We divide the people. We divide India in the name of religion. Why should we exploit the name of religion, language and culture?" he said at a function to launch a 2 MW wind turbine, claimed to be the first in India, manufactured by Gamesa in the city.

Abdullah said that a handful of terror-mongers have brought disrepute to Islam.

"I want to see a day when I can see my God in the eyes of a Hindu and a Hindu can see his God in my eyes, " the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said.
