RINL, railways to set up wheel plant in UP

The process of order placement is at an advance stage

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) and the Railways have signed an agreement for setting up a forged wheel plant at Lalgunj, UP at an investment of Rs 1,100 crore. The plant will be producing one lakh wheels a year in the first phase.

According to a news report in Business Line, union minister of steel Beni Prasad Verma said that the agreement will start a new chapter of cooperation between the Indian steel industry and the Railways. He added that RINL and the Railways would be mutually benefited.

Mallikarjun Kharge, minister of railways had advised the RINL to complete the project on time to meet the requirement of wheels.

AP Choudhary, CMD, RINL informed that the process of order placement is at an advance stage. He added that the capacity of the plant would be doubled in the second phase to over two lakh wheels a year.

The factory is expected to be operational in 36 months from order placement date and it would provide employment to around 600 people.
