Punjab revenue department has taken several steps that bode well for women in the state and are people friendly.

To make revenue matters people friendly and free from cumbersome procedures, which caused undue harassment to the public, the department has taken several steps, an official spokesman said here today.

The condition for transfer rights on the sale of allotted surplus land have been reduced from 15 years to five years by amending the Punjab Utilisation of Surplus Area Scheme, he said.

He said that an amendment had been made in the Punjab land Reforms Act, 1972 to make the adult daughters eligible to get permissible area from the land in addition to the adult son.

The spokesman said that to empower women, the government had amended the Punjab Security of Land Tenures Act, 1953 thereby deleting the word (male) in order to give protection of tenancy now to female tenants also, which was earlier discriminatory against women.
