Seemandhra protesters build 'memorial' to Sonia Gandhi

Samaikhyandhra protesters express frustration in in Tirupati

GN Bureau | October 15, 2013

From being admired as a goddess, AICC president Sonia Gandhi is now the most hated personality across the Seemandhra regions, thanks to her bold Telangana decision. The iron lady of Indian politics may be pushing ahead with the AP bifurcation process with steely resolve but there is one sight she would wish to avoid all through her life: a "memorial" for Gandhi called ‘Sonia Ghat’.

Exasperated by the Congress party’s refusal to take the Seemandhra protests seriously, a few agitators came up with this idea. Samaikhyandhra protesters began building the "memorial", brick by brick, in Tirupati. For them, it’s a symbolic protest to drive home their point in no uncertain terms. They claim that Sonia deserved this for burying alive the interests of Seemandhra regions with her bifurcation decision.

Naming the "memorial" as ‘Sonia Ghat’, they have even announced three days of mourning. They demanded that memorials like this should come up in every district if the Congress and the UPA fail to stop the bifurcation process immediately. The idea sure comes with a strong sense of frustration and anguish but it is already proving effective, grabbing all the eyeballs in the temple town.
