Jairam Ramesh, the environment and forests minister has told the civil aviation ministry to choose between destroying mangroves and taking away land allotted to Mukesh Ambani for a SEZ. Ramesh, who has been at loggerheads with the civil aviation ministry over the construction of an airport in Navi Mumbai has a new suggestion, a report in The Hindu said. Instead of harming the mangroves, the state government of Maharashtra and the civil aviation ministry should use some of the land allotted to the Special Economic Zone, which is to the south of the site rather than the mangroves in the north.
