Special parliament session to ease 2G logjam before budget?

Will opposition buy Pranab's idea?

GN Bureau | December 22, 2010

A special three-day session of parliament in mid-February is being contemplated to ease the logjam on the 2G spectrum controversy so that the budget session can be smooth.

If the session is convened, the Lok Sabha will discuss only the 2G scam for three days and prime minister Manmohan Singh will reply to the charges on the concluding day.

The suggestion for a special session came from Pranab Mukherjee when he had a meeting with Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar recently.

Armed with the support of the speaker, Mukherjee, who is the leader of the Lok Sabha, is planning to hold meetings individually with major opposition parries like BJP, SP, BSP and Left parties with an idea of holding a special session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the 2G scam.

It, however, remains to be seen how the leading opposition parties react to the proposal.
