Two years needed to undo Connuaght Place mess

NDMC took up the restoration work in CP in April 2009

GN Bureau | August 31, 2010

Those waiting for a decked up Connaught Place (CP) will have to wait.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will take at least two more years to beautify CP, restoring it to its past glory. This project includes a uniform look for all the shops, multi- level parking and three new sub- ways.

“We have given uniform look to almost all the shops in the outer circle. Middle and inner circle will take time. The entire project will be executed in not less than two years,” said a NDMC official, not wishing to be identified.

Work on the three new sub-ways which were to be ready before the Commonwealth Games will now start once the Games are over.

The work of giving uniform looks to shops has been stopped as of now and will resume post Games.

MCD started the façade restoration work in CP in April 2009. Currently, the civic agency is working on a war footing to clear the debris which has come up in the area due to the construction work taken up in the last few months. The deadline to clean the debris was Tuesday. But the NDMC officials have said that due to heavy rains in the last few days, it will take time to clean up the debris.
All construction works in the area are running against a September 5 deadline.
