Continuing the crackdown on DMK leaders, vigilance officials on Wednesday raided six premises belonging to former DMK minister Thangam Thennarasu and his relatives in four districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai.

The raids were also conducted in Madurai, Virudhunagar and Dindigul.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption conducted a probe on specific information that Thennarasu, while serving as School Education Minister, had allegedly acquired properties in his name and in his family's to the tune of several lakhs of rupees, an official release said.

A prima facie case has been made out that Thennarasu allegedly accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs 82,97,535 in his name and in the name of his family during May 15,2006 to March 31,2010, it said.

In this regard, a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Thennaarasu, now MLA, is the latest among several DMK leaders and former ministers besides MLAs to face police and DVAC action either on land grab charges or allegations of disproportionate assets, after the AIADMK government came to power in April last year.

DVAC had earlier conducted raids at the houses of 11 former DMK ministers, J Anbazhagan, MLA and former legislator B Ranganathan.
