GN Bureau | New Delhi | December 21 2011
India's first women safety application, Fight Back, was released by Whypoll, a citizen's networking group on Wednesday.
The mobile application, inspired by HarassMap application in Egypt, has been developed jointly by whypoll and TechMahindra. Hindol Sengupta and Sweta Punj, founders of Whypoll, worked over a year to develop this aplication.
The FightBack app allows women to connect with their friends and family through variety of platforms, including social networking sites like facebook and twitter. A simple one-touch SOS mechanism is used to report harassment or violence in any form. Upto five telephone numbers can be programmed with the application to whom a text msg with GPS location will be sent in case of emergency. E-mails to friends and status updates to social networking sites can also be sent through FightBack application.
FightBack, for the first year, will be a paid application available for download on www.whypoll.org for an affordable annual sum of Rs 100.
