The West Bengal government plans to prepare a fresh IT policy to boost investment in the sector in the state. The base IT policy will be framed very soon and submitted to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, IT minister Partha Chatterjee told a CII seminar in the state capital.

The base draft policy will seek suggestions and inputs of a high-power committee comprising Sam Pitroda and Narayan Murthy. The new IT policy would focus on both the software and hardware sectors.

Chatterjee said the new government was trying to find why and where the state lagged behind in attracting large investment in the sector. "We will address the same and will incorporate best practices of the industry in the new policy," he said.

The new policy will address issues of small, medium and large IT companies. The state government planned to set up IT hubs across the state, he added.
