EC received only two requests from NRIs for voting rights

Amendment to the representation of people's act, has given the NRIs voting rights in India for which they have to enroll with the ECI

Election Commission of India's (ECI) online registration for voting for Non Resident Indians (NRIs), which opened from November last year, has received only two applications, a senior official said on Tuesday.

Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi said that only two NRIs have applied for voting rights till date. "If NRIs want to apply for voting rights, they can enroll for that on our website," he added.

An amendment to the Representation of People's Act, has allowed NRIs, who have not accepted the citizenship of another country, voting rights in India for which they have to enrol with the ECI.
