The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) today declared the results of class 10th examinations, a day before their official announcement, after the scores were accessed from a social networking site in the morning.

A senior BOSE official denied that the results were leaked. The state government, however, said the matter will be inquired into.

"There is nothing like leak. We had to give a trial run for the results on the internet which we did. The result is now available on the site," Commissioner Secretary Education and BOSE chairperson Naseema Lankar said.

However, her remarks came hours after the results were made available through a link posted on a pro-stone pelting page 'frontline Kashmir' on Facebook till this noon.

Lankar was earlier quoted in the internet edition of a local english daily saying the board was yet to declare the results for the 10th standard exams held in October last year.

The first link appeared on the page in the wee hours but was disabled by BOSE officials at 11:00 AM.

With in minutes, the page administrator posted another link that enabled users to access results till noon.

Shabir Ahmad Bhat, a student who appeared for the examination, said he got a call from his friend at 4 am telling him about the results.

"The link was connected to the official website of the JK Board of School Education but could only be accessed through Facebook," Bhat said.

However, according to some students, the link was later taken off the website.

"Some friends accessed the result through a link on facebook in the wee hours today and asked me to do the same.

However, when I clicked on the link it had been removed," another candidate, identified as Gousia, said.

A senior official of the BOSE, which conducts all the school examinations in the state, expressed surprise that the results were available before they were declared officially.

"The results were to be declared tomorrow," the official said.

Meanwhile, in Jammu, state education minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed denied that the results were 'leaked' and said that there will be an inquiry into such reports.

He said as compared to last year?s exam results, there was a 3 per cent increase in pass rate, which stands at 65 per cent this year.

Sayeed said opening of schools and efforts of students even when there was turmoil in the state "defeated those nefarious and anti-social elements who were bent to bring education system to grinding halt".
