Man arrested for sending obscene SMS

Twenty five such cases have been registered this year and 18 arrested

A 32-year old man was arrested for allegedly making nuisance calls and sending obscene SMS to a couple. Padmanabhan, the accused, was arrested on Friday night at Sullivan Street by officials of the Cyber Crime Cell, police said.

He was arrested following a complaint by Ravishankar, a resident of Telugupalayam area in Coimbatore. Ravishankar and his wife had complained that they were receiving nuisance calls and obscene SMS over a period of time, police said, adding a special team was formed to investigate it.

The team monitored the call details and tracked down the location of the mischief monger and arrested him on Friday. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody on Saturday. So far 25 such cases have been registered this year and 18 arrested in this connection, police said.
