Cheated Tiruchirappali man of Rs 2.06 lakh

A 27-year-old Mumbai based man has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime wing of CB-CID Police for allegedly cheating a person in Tamil Nadu of Rs 2.06 lakh through the internet with the promise of providing him a job.

A CB-CID press release said that the victim, from Tiruchirapalli received an email in September 2009, stating that there was a vacancy for a supervisor in UK based hotel.

He responded and applied for the post, it said.

As instructed in the email, he deposited Rs 2.06 lakh in three of the man's accounts at Mumbai. However when he found there were no replies to his repeated queries on the job, he lodged a complaint with the cyber crime cell,the release said.

Investigation led to the arrest of the man on June 2. A mobile phone and an bank debit card were seized from him.

He was produced at a Magistrate court in Mumbai the next day and brought to Chennai after obtaining transit custody, it said.

He was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, it said.
