Seminar to spread awareness of IT Act

A one day National Seminar for the IT Secretaries of all the States & Union Territories across the country is being held on 8th May, 2010 in New Delhi. The Implementation & Challenges faced in the enforcement of cyber law would be deliberated upon at the Seminar.

The Seminar is being hosted by the first and only Cyber Court in the country, the Cyber Appellate Tribunal (CAT) along with the National Project Committee on Enforcement of Cyber Law constituted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

Briefing the Press, the Chairperson of the CAT Justice Rajesh Tandon informed that Seminar would be inaugurated by the Chief Justice of India Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. G. Balakrishnan. Dr. Veerappa Moily. Hon’ble Union Minister for Law & Justice will preside over the Inaugural Function. Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court and various High Courts would be attending the Seminar, he added.

Emphasizing the need to create awareness among masses and all the stakeholders about cyber laws and remedies available against various cyber crimes, Justice Tandon informed that Tribunal is engaged in holding seminars in different parts of the country for the purpose. The forthcoming seminar is one in the series, he said.

The IT Secretaries of all States and Union Territories who have been designated as the Adjudicating Officers under the IT Act, 2000 would be participating in the Seminar. The purpose of the Seminar is to create and spread awareness regarding the various provisions of the IT Act. This will help them in exercising their powers more effectively
