Now a cyber knife to cure cancer

Robotic radio surgery system has low side-effects

Cyber Knife, a robotic radiosurgery system, was found to be very effective and painless on about 400 cancer patients treated so far, According to Nalini Rao, a Consultant Radiation Oncologist.

One of the advantages of the Cyber Knife was that it could reach any part of the body with ease and precision. "It is enough if they come for one sitting and that also without anaesthesia, instead of several sittings daily for a week, no anaesthesia she said.

The Radiation tool will help to operate and remove even benign tumours in critical areas like brain. It would cut only the affected areas minimised side effect, she said.

The health Care Global Enterprises ltd, a Bangalore based cancer care network, which managed 20 state-of-art cancer treatment centres across asia had found that side effects due to using Cyberknife in cancer treatment was remarkably low, she said.

Rao said that under the present radio surgery treatment and Chemotherapy there were more side effects which weakened the patients. Besides due to the precision, even high dosage of radiation could be given to patients in advanced stage of cancer, she said.
