PTI | May 18, 2010

State-owned telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd today launched its 'Live Portal' for its customers of its mobile services in the South Zone.

The 'Live Portal' would enable customers to watch TV programmes, movies, download songs and mobile games while on the move, BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal told reporters after launching the service.

'It is a pleasure to start this service in Southern zone.

We started the 3G services last year and it is now present across 428 cities serving 12.5 lakh customers... We already have the 'video calling' and 'hello television' service but the convenience comes with the use of Live Portal launched today', he said.

The company would also introduce mobile commerce, 'mobile episode' and other utilities (paying phone bills and other services) very soon, he said.

On the delay in launching the service in South zone while it was made available in the North and Eastern regions in July last year, he said the company was in the process of getting all information related to the launch. 'We were in the process of partnering with companies for launching this service.'

Replying to a question, he 'soon it would be launched in Mumbai, Gujarat and other parts of Western region...After that launch we would be providing this service Pan-India'.

He said through this service, telemedicine facility for rural customers and educational services can also be provided.
