The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE), in collaboration with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and Yuvamanthan, has formally launched “Building a Sustainable Future”, a structured initiative aimed at institutionalizing environmental education and sustainable practices in Delhi schools.

Prasann Batra, Youth Ambassador for the Yuvamanthan–CAQM program and a student at Vasant Valley School, is actively supporting the rollout, highlighting the growing role of students in climate action and policy awareness.

The initiative incorporates environmental literacy into the school system through e-courses, experiential modules, and capacity-building workshops for teachers. It also includes Shunya Audits for Environmental Assessments, district-wide Clean Air Challenges, and e-waste collection drives, enabling schools to evaluate and reduce their environmental impact.

The Directorate has instructed all government, government-aided, and private unaided schools in Delhi to implement the initiative and submit compliance reports by March 25 through their respective District and Zonal Education Officers.

With a framework that blends policy, pedagogy, and participation, Building a Sustainable Future represents a strategic step toward cultivating environmentally aware citizens and advancing Delhi’s sustainability goals.
