'Satyagraha' over steep price rise in essential commodities, job cuts

Expressing concern over the steep price rise of essential commodities, job cuts and other issues, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Thursday announced that it will organise a nationwide Satyagraha on March 5.

"The two-day meet of the national executive of BMS which concluded this afternoon here, has decided to organise Satyagraha and court arrest across the country on March 5," BMS general secretary K. Lakshma Reddy told reporters.

"We are going to organise protest through out the year in the country against the failure of centre and state governments in checking price rise, job cuts and improving the condition of people engaged in unorganised sector," he added.

He said working class in different government, semi-government, unorganised sector have been affected by the price rise.

Reddy said job opportunities have shrunk with a ban on recruitment in different government establishments after the economic reforms of the 1990s in the country.

Despite the retirement of the workforce, young generation is not getting the job, BMS general secretary said.

"We want that the ban on recruitment in different government establishments should be lifted," he added.
