India and the UK signed a landmark Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) on Thursday, as the visiting prime minister, Narendra Modi, and his UK counterpart Keir Starmer discussed Technology Security Initiative, defence & security, energy & climate, education and people-to-people ties too.

Modi met Starmer at the Chequers Estate in London and they reviewed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with a renewed focus under India–UK Vision 2035. They also discussed regional & global issues of mutual interest, according to an official statement.

“Thankful to PM Keir Starmer for the warm welcome at Chequers,” Modi noted in an X post. “Our discussions reflect a shared commitment to deepen India-UK ties across sectors.”

In a statement, he expressed happiness at the conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. He called it "not just an economic partnership but a blueprint for shared prosperity".
