Jishnu Dev Varma was sworn in as the 22nd Governor of Maharashtra on Tuesday at a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan. The oath of office was administered by Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

 
The ceremony commenced with the national anthem and the state song, and concluded with the national anthem. After the oath-taking ceremony, Dev Varma was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by the Indian Navy.
 
Following the oath ceremony, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis as well as deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar congratulated the governor by presenting bouquets.
 
The chairman of the legislative council, Ram Shinde, speaker of the legislative assembly, Rahul Narwekar, Neelam Gorhe, deputy chairperson, legislative council, Sushilkumar Shinde, former chief minister, Chandrakant Patil, higher and technical education minister, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, skill development minister, Narahari Zirwal, food and drugs administration minister, Chhagan Bhujbal, food and civil supplies minister, chief secretary, Rajesh Agarwal, director general of police, Sadanand Date, Mumbai police commissioner, Deven Bharti, chief state protocol officer Rajesh Gavande were amongst those present at the ceremony.
 
Earlier, chief cecretary Rajesh Agarwal read out the official notification issued by the president of India, Droupadi Murmu, announcing the appointment of Jishnu Dev Varma as governor of Maharashtra.
 
On Monday, Dev Varma arrived in Mumbai to assume his new responsibilities after relinquishing charge as the governor of Telangana, where he served for over one and a half years.
 
Hailing from the Tripura royal family, Dev Varma had served as the deputy chief minister of Tripura from 2018 to 2023.
 
Born on August 15, 1957, in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, he entered public life after completing his education. He formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 1990s and subsequently became active in state politics.
