J&K, Haryana go to polls; results on Oct 4

Jammu-Kashmir to have three-phase elections -- first since August 2019 change

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the schedule for the elections to the assemblies of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. While the border state will have elections in three phases, on September 18, September 25 and October 1, Haryana will vote on October 1. Votes will be counted on October 4.

The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir goes to polls for the first time since the revocation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the erstwhile state in August 2019.

A team of the ECI had visited J&K and Haryana this month to review poll preparedness before announcing the schedule.

Seats
Haryana has 90 assembly constituencies, with 17 of them reserved for Scheduled Castes. The strength of the assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, as determined by the Delimitation Order, is 90, with seven reserved for SCs and nine for Scheduled Tribes.

Voters
Haryana has a total of 2,01,90,184 general electors, whereas J&K has 87,90,870 general electors.

Polling Stations
The number of polling stations in Haryana goes up from 19,442 in 2019 to 20,629 now. For J&K, the respective figures are 10,757 and 11,838.
