Long due promotion cleared finally

PM clears promotion of 1978 batch IAS officers as Secretaries to government of India

GN Bureau | November 11, 2011

Finally the list of 1978 IAS officers as Secretaries to Government of India - is out.

Speculations were ripe that list was pruned twice and the third time-the total number of promotees were reduced from 41 to 37.

UPA2 personnel policy has been under criticism-as senior bureaucrats have now become disgruntled as promotions and postings to the top slot are increasingly becoming political. Many officers have to wait for more than six months to one year to get their turn, but by that time some get superannuated. UPA2 personnel policy is a constipated commented a former Cabinet Secretary.  Prime Minister Office also getting into internal squabbles of IAS officers of that particular batch.

In UPA2 the promotions as Secretaries to Government of India has become an exercise like Union Cabinet reshuffle.
