LS speaker to consult parties on rescheduling Q-hour

It can be shifted to evening to save it from protests

PTI | April 23, 2010

Faced with frequent disruptions of Question Hour in Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar today said she will soon consult all political parties on conducting it in the evening.

"I shall be writing to the leaders of political parties and see if we can have the Question Hour in the evening," Kumar told reporters here.

Earlier, after the first two days of the second phase of the Budget session were wasted following uproar by opposition over Dantewada issue and IPL row, Kumar had said, "not allowing the Question Hour to continue is a matter of concern.

"I am thinking of measures which can help in preventing the Question Hour to be disrupted," she said.

Both Houses begin their day's proceedings with the Question Hour that lasts an hour.

Kumar had said that Question Hour was being "targeted" but "this is what makes Parliament a public institution in true senses, where legislature's responsibility towards people is established.

"Whatever is the right measure, will be taken," she said.
