In a bid to help those left out to be counted in the on-going census, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has set up a series of helpline numbers to assist people in registering for the head-count.

"We have come up with helpline numbers for all the 24 wards. About 82 per cent of the work is over and 10-15 per cent houses were found locked. Those who were left out for whatever reasons can take the help of these number," Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar told reporters here.

The numbers, one each for the 24 wards, start from 9167259701 and continue as a series upto 9167259724, which is the last.

The first phase of the 15th National Census began with the house listing and housing census from May 1 and will culminate on June 15. Around 27,248 enumerators are surveying an average of 150 households each.

"There is no point in enumerators going back to the locked houses. Once the families return they can call up the respective helpline number and inform the ward officials that they are back in the city. They can specify the time during which they will be available at home so that the enumerator can be sent accordingly," Mhaiskar added.
