A green NGO has claimed that the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) is not putting up compliance reports on its website. Himanshu Thakkar of South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers & People (SANDRP) has said that the MoEF is violating the environment impact (EIA) notification of 2006. Under EIA notification 2006 and 2009, as part of the post environmental clearance monitoring, it is compulsory for the project management to submit half-yearly compliance reports in respect of the environment clearance.

In an email to environment and forests minister Jairam Ramesh, Thakkar has written that “This is clearly in complete violation of the EIA notification. It is indeed a sad state of affairs that the MEF, which is the regulatory authority in this case, is found to be violating the EIA notification. We would like to urge you take urgent steps to correct this anomaly.”

Talking to Governance Now, Thakkar said that though all the compliance reports weren't being submitted to the ministry but even those being submitted, weren't being updated. "It is illegal as it is not following the notification," he added.
