Over 200 Illegal weapons seized in Manipur

IEDs, grenades among large cache of arms and explosives found in massive security operation

In one of the largest arms recoveries in recent months, joint security forces in Manipur have seized more than 200 illegal weapons along with ammunition and explosives during coordinated search operations across the state’s hill districts.

The operations were carried out between the night of July 3 and the morning of July 4 and  led by combined teams of the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The raids took place in Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts, following intelligence inputs about the presence of large caches of arms and warlike stores.

Officials said the searches were launched simultaneously in multiple remote and interior locations, targeting areas suspected of harbouring illegal weapons. The operation resulted in a significant haul of arms and explosives, which authorities say were likely intended for use in unlawful activities.

These operations resulted in the recovery of the following arms, ammunition, explosives, and other warlike stores.

Senior officials have hailed the success of the operation as a major step toward improving security and restoring public confidence in the affected districts.

“This recovery demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence-based operations and our continued resolve to eliminate threats to peace,” said a senior Manipur Police official.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens. They also urged the public to support ongoing operations by reporting any suspicious activity or information regarding illegal arms to the nearest police station or Central Control Room.

The Manipur Police and security forces are expected to continue similar operations in the coming weeks as part of a broader strategy to stabilize the region and curb the proliferation of illegal weapons.
