Police conduct combing operations in Maoist-affected villages

Operation in 34 identified villages to continue till Monday eve

As many as 300 policemen divided into ten teams from the Naxal Special Duty wing and Q Branch wing started combing operations in 34 identified Maoist-affected villages in the district on Sunday.

The operations are being conducted ahead of the 24th death anniversary tomorrow of Maoist leader K Balan, police sources said.

Maoist sympathisers, including those of the People Democratic Youth League and 'Vivasayikal Viduthalai Munnani' have planned to observe the death anniversary on Monday at their leader's memorial, situated in Naickenkottai, 9 km from here, police said.

They would also conduct a public meeting in Dharmapuri town on Monday evening, they added.

In order to avert any untoward incident, special combing operation was started by 9 pm covering all the 34 identified naxal-infested village in Dharmapuri, Pennagaram and Harur sub divisions, police said. The combing operation would continue up to Monday evening, they said.
