Should politics be played over killers of CMs and PMs?

GN Bureau | March 30, 2012

The hanging of the convicted killer of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh has become a poltical issue in the state with almost every party backing sparing him . However, the supreme court hearing a different appeal, said "If the decision was taken at an appropriate stage, then the exchequer could have been saved crores of rupees." Criticising the parties for politicising the issue, the court said, "There is a person convicted of the charge of killing. It was a broad daylight killing of a Chief Minister. Instances are replete where persons found guilty of the terrorist offences have got political support. There are leaders who have garnered support and come to power. How can they leave them?" Apart from the hanging of the killer of Beant Singh, the hangings of Parliament attack mastermind and the co-conspirator in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination were politcised in Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu respectively.

Do you think this is right? Should politics be palyed over the killers of CMs and PMs?
