Role of PPP for ICT in schools to be explored

Government has set up a seven-member panel to suggest a roadmap for use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) tools in schools which would get broad-band connectivity in the next three years.

The Sub-Committee of Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) on ICT in School Education is headed by Secretary School Education Anshu Vaish.

The other members include Biocon CEO Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Prof Kiran Seth and educationist Vinod Raina.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has announced that the government is planning to launch ICT scheme in school education on the pattern of the existing ICT scheme in higher education. He has said the schools will get broad-band connectivity in the next three years.

The seven-member panel has been set up by Sibal following a recommendation of CABE, the apex advisory body on education.

The committee will also suggest possible role of public-private-partnership in use of ICT in schools. It will suggest appropriate level for introduction of computer literacy among school students.

Role of ICT for skill development at school stage, strategy for teachers' capacity building through ICT use and effective use of digital content are the mandates for the committee which will submit its report by August.
