That the government is serious about diluting the RTI Act once again became clear on Thursday with Prithviraj Chavan, MoS, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, informing the Rajya Sabha that his ministry was considering the proposal to amend the Act.
The eight proposals under consideration includes, amendment to enlarge the scope of suo-motu disclosure, to discourage frivolous or vexatious representations, to modify the provision about disclosure of cabinet papers, to safeguard the sensitivity of the office of the Chief Justice of India and to provide for constitution of Benches of the Commission.
The minister added that amendments, if any, would be made after consultation with stakeholders.
