A total of 40 officers underwent recently concluded 'Judge Advocates Basic Course' held for the young officers attached to the Judge Advocate General's departments of the armed forces and allied services.

A total of 40 officers, including 26 officers of the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) branch of the Indian Army, five officers of Air Force, two officers of Indian Navy, two others from the Legal Wing of the Indian Coast Guard and two foreign officers, one each from Botswana and Tonga defence forces, had undergone the twelve-week long course at the Institute of Military Law (IML) based in Kamptee in Nagpur.

The officers received training in military and allied laws, including the conduct of Courts Martial, Law of Armed Conflict, International Humanitarian Law and service ethics, a Defence release said on Tuesday.

Lt Gen Nehra, the Adjutant General and Colonel Commandant of the JAG's Department, addressed the student officers and also gave away the prizes to the meritorious students.

Major General A B Gorthi Running Trophy for the 'Overall Best Performance' in the course was awarded to Lieutenant Soma John.

The 'Col RD Bharadwaj Silver Medal' for the Best performance in Lecturette, Case Study presentation and practical assignments was bestowed upon Lieutenant Ankita Pandey.

'Commandant's Running Trophy' for second in overall merit went to Lieutenant Priyamwada Sharma.

Lieutenant Priti Mallik received Colonel R Balasubranian award for being adjudged for her best all-round performance.

Lieutenant General J P Nehra, the Adjutant General of the Army was the chief guest on the occasion. Major General C S Nair, the Judge Advocate General (Army) and Colonel Indra Sen Singh, Commandant, IML were prominent among those attended the function.
