Airport Authority of India’s (AAI) paper recycling unit, run as part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR), has earned ISO certificate for recycling of paper and its utilization. AAI is the first PSU to establish a paper recycling unit to support the concept “GROW’ i.e. government recycled office waste. The paper recycling unit of AAI converts paper waste collected from various offices of AAI across the country and uses it to make stationery products like folders, visiting cards, envelopes, letter heads, corporate gifts, calendars etc, used in daily operations by the organisation. Earlier the paper waste was either dumped or sold.

The paper unit, in the past, has earned many laurels for the company through its awards such as Golden Peacock Innovation Award in 2012, Teflas CSR Award 2012 and Asia’s Best CSR practice award 2013. In a drive to promote better practices for environment conservation, AAI in association with Kalyanmayee, its women welfare association (AAIWWA), started this initiative in 2009. Archna Agrawal, president, AAIWWA pioneered the inception of the project and contributed in establishment of the paper recycling unit in Delhi to promote use of recycled paper in a substantial manner.
