Bhatkal interrogation: NIA fears fresh strikes; issues alert on two more IM terrorists

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) further fears terror strikes by two Indian Mujahideen terrorists based on Bhatkal interrogation

GN Bureau | September 25, 2013

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) may have finally got the custody of its prized catch, Indian Mujahiddeen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal and his ward Asadullah Akhtar in the Dilshukhnagar blasts. But startling revelations by the duo during custodial interrogation is keeping the agency on tenterhooks.

The NIA on Tuesday announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone providing valid information on the whereabouts of two other Indian Mujahideen terrorists, Tehseen Akhtar and Waqas. The agency suspects that the two terrorists could be preparing for more terror strikes in the country.

Bhatkal and Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi are currently under the custody of the NIA and they are being quizzed at an undisclosed location in Hyderabad. The duo has reportedly revealed to the interrogators that Tehseen Akhtar and Waqas have played an equally crucial role in the Hyderabad twin blasts.

More shockingly, the investigators learnt with shock that the two terrorists are preparing to carry out more terror strikes in the country. Alarmed by the revelations, the NIA has released the photographs of the two ultras and appealed to the general public to provide information on them.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the NIA gave a vivid description of the two wanted terrorists. The agency described Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu alias Hassan, as a five-foot-six-inch tall tech-savvy man, hailing from Bihar. Speaking in Hindi and English, the terrorist would introduce himself as a student and operates Internet from his android phone, it said.

The NIA release warned the general public that Tehseen could be moving around tourist places posing as a guide. It said that he might also approach shops for SIM cards.

Waqas was identified as a Pakistani national, who was last known to have resided in Mangalore. The agency said that he is yet another tech-savvy youth of the Indian Mujahideen, who could pose as a student. According to the investigating agency, Waqas had a facial paralysis and he frequently visits doctors for treatment. It said the man walks with a limp.

Because of their track record in inciting communal hatred, the NIA suspects that the duo is somewhere in India and must be preparing to carry out fresh terror strikes.
