BJP questions delay, calls for zero tolerance

"Nation calls for honest and effective response to terrorism"

The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remained critical of the UPA government, questioning the delay of over five years in hanging parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Addressing a press briefing within hours of Guru's hanging, party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "Guru was given capital punishment by the supreme court in August 2005. His review petition was rejected in July 2007. The nation wants honest and effective response to terrorism. This delay raises serious questions."

Calling for zero tolerance to terrorism, he said that granted the constituion provides for human rights but the victims of terrorist attacks also have human right.

BJP's ally Shiv Sena, on the other hand, for all praise and welcomed the decision to hang Guru.
