Forth spice park to be opened in Guna

Power minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to inaugurate it on Saturday

GN Bureau | March 13, 2013

Taking forward its initiative to boost production and export of agricultural products in the country, the government is set to inaugurate the fourth spice park in Guna, Madhya Pradesh.

The park will be inaugurated by union power minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday.

Last year, the government had announced the setting-up of 10 spice parks across the country to promote exports of spices from India for which it had allocated funds of over Rs 160 crore. Three parks in Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh (MP), Puttady in Kerela and Jodhpur in Rajasthan have already been functioning.

According to the Spices Board of India website, the approximate value of world trade in spices is 1.05 million tons valued at USD 2750 million, out of which India has a significant share of 48% in volume and 43% in value.

The parks will ensure better pricing of the produce by cutting out middlemen in the local supply chain systems. “These parks will also help render educative services to the farming/trading community besides imparting training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), post-harvest operations, advanced processing practices and global food safety and quality standards and issues etc,” the website further claims.
