National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Monday slapped a notice on West Bengal government asking it to investigate in next 10 days the incident in which a fifth class student was allegedly forced to drink her urine in Santiniketan and submit a report to it.

In a notice sent to the Secretary, School Education, West Bengal government, the NCPCR also asked the department to take necessary action with regard to the incident.

Noting that it got a complaint about the incident on Saturday about the incident at Patha Bhavan of Visva Bharati University in the state, the Commission said it has taken cognizance of the matter.

"You are accordingly requested to get the matter investigated and take further necessary action. The action taken report, along with authenticated copies of the relevant documents, be sent to the Commission within 10 days of issue of this letter," Lov Verma, Member-Secretary, NCPCR, said in the letter.

The NCPCR also told the Secretary that the report should have details of alleged victimisation and punishment accorded to the student and qualification and training imparted to the hostel warden.

The report should also suggest necessary actions against the warden and other functionaries, if found guilty and ensure that the child gets immediate counseling at the cost of the state, the letter said.
