GN Bureau | February 11, 2013

Indian Overseas Bank has completed 76 years of operations in February 2013.

From being the smallest bank to be nationalised in 1969 and the tenth largest nationalised bank in 2010, IOB is now the seventh largest nationalised bank in the country.

During its journey the bank has achieved many milestones. It presently has 2,755 branches and 1,650 ATMs across the country and is the only bank to have more than 1,000 branches in Tamil Nadu, according to a message from IOB's chairman and managing director M Narendra on the occasion.

During the last two years the bank has opened more than 700 branches across the country, enhancing its pan-India presence. According to the top official, IOB's domestic branch network would be more than 3,000 by March this year. The bank also plans to open more branches abroad, establishing itself as a global financial institution.
