Jaya tells Advani: Sangma must withdraw

Says Sangma should thank Navin Patnaik and ADMK for reposing confidence in him

PTI | June 28, 2012

Jayalalithaa feels PA Sangma should now withdraw from the presidential poll race. He should thank Navin Patnaik and ADMK for reposing confidence in him.

Jayalalithaa is believed to have conveyed this to LK Aadvani on Tuesday when he spoke to Jaya in Kodanadu, which has shocked many senior BJP leaders.

Advani was surprised upon hearing this from Jayalalithaa and told her such statements would further demoralise the Opposition.

BJP top leaders were taken aback when Advani called her up and requested her to be present when PA Sangma files nomination on Thursday.

Jaya told Advani that she was undergoing medical treatment in Kodanadu and she would stay there for over a month. She said she would not be come to Delhi.

Instead, Jayalalithaa asked ADMK leader Thambidurai to be present when Sangma files his nomination. Jaya has agreed but feels after filing his nomination, Sangma should issue a press statement that his desire was fulfilled and he was withdrawing his candidature.
