Jammu and Kashmir government has accorded sanction for prosecution of former minister and Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil for making "false" allegation of corruption against a minister from his own party Taj Mohiuddin.

"After having been satisfied with the material available with me, (I) do hereby accord sanction for prosecution of Shri Abdul Gani Vakil, Ex Minister, for making false, malicious and defamatory allegations against Taj Mohiuddin, Minister for PHE," Law Secretary Ghulam Hassan Tantary said in his order.

Tantray also directed the public prosecutor at Jammu, Chaudhary Shabir Ahmad, to file a complaint before the Sessions Judge Jammu against Vakil under section 500 RPC.

Vakil said that he failed to understand how the government had directed for initiating proceedings against him when the matter was already subjudice.

"Somebody had approached anti-corruption judge along with media reports about corruption in PHE and Irrigation departments. The judge took cognizance of the matter and directed the Vigilance Organisation to probe the allegations.

I cannot understand that when the matter is sub-judice, how can the government issue such a notification," he said.

Vakil, a minister in the Ghulam Nabi Azad government, said he will continue his fight against corruption.

"Demanding inquiry into allegations of corruption does not amount to defamation. It is the right of every political activist," he added.
