SC rejects Jagan Reddy's bail plea

Apex court asks CBI to wind up investigation in four months

GN Bureau | May 9, 2013

YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to cool his heels in Hyderabad’s Chanchalguda jail for at least four more months after the supreme court rejected his bail application in a disproportionate assets case on Thursday.

Observing that granting Reddy bail at this juncture could hamper investigations and that he could influence witnesses, the court directed CBI to wrap up the probe within four months. The SC bench of justices P Sathasivam and MY Iqbal said the Kadapa MP could apply for bail before a trial court after the probe is completed.

The bench has also turned down the bail pleas of Jagan Reddy’s aides Vijai Sai Reddy and Nimmagadda Reddy. Both were asked to surrender by June 5.

The CBI had arrested Reddy last year, accusing him of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during his father, late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime
