During the meeting of Congress leaders on Friday, a strong demand was made for raising the cap of subsidised LPG cylinders from the current six to 12.

Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi was the first one to speak followed by prime minister Manmohan Singh.

P Chidambaram, sources said, repeated the same brief what he made to the union council of ministers earlier this month.

In all 69 Congress ministers from the cabinet attended the meeting, with one absentee, Chiranjivi. 

The AICC told its union ministers that it was high time for the government to understand public sentiments. It asked the ministers to "perform well" if they were looking for victory.

The RSS, the VHP and the Shishu Mandir were repeatedly used by the AICC speakers who are not Union Minsiters.

No one spoke from Andhra Pradesh. Union Science and Technology minister Jaipal Reddy was literaly sidelined in Surajkund. He did not utter a word.

Jayanti Natarajan, P Chidambaram and GK Vasan spoke at length about their ministries.

Digvijay Singh criticised senior Congress ministers and said some of them do not feel good to visit the AICC. His speech was fiery and for the first time he did not take the name of Narendra Modi but ministers who do not share the success stories with the AICC.

Sources said they could see a complete divide between AICC and the union ministers.

The speakers broadly focused on the peformance of the government. Complaint was that MPs and state party cadres are unable to meet their respective union ministers.

Sonia Gandhi said that senior minsiters should note down this aspect.
