Jharkhand police today said some persons with general crime records were trying to contact the police identifying themselves as Maoists but warned that they would not get any benefits under the surrender package earmarked for identified left wing ultras.

After reviewing a top-level police meeting on anti-naxal operations here, Director General of Police (DGP) Neyaz Ahmed told newsmen that the police had records of wanted Maoists who could avail the surrender policy.

Stating that the police would continue its anti-naxal operations against those indulging in violence and destruction of properties, the DGP said the police was making efforts for a massive publicity campaign to lure back the misguided youth to the democratic mainstream and avail the government?s developmental schemes.

The DGP met the Superintendents of police of naxal - infested districts of Chatra, Garhwa, Palamau and Latehar, apparently to chalk out the plan to combat the naxal menace.

Jharkhand police have adopted a two-pronged strategy to combat the Maoist problem -- continued anti-naxal operation in their hideouts and ?Operation Nai Disha? under which the police have appealed to the extremists to surrender and get benefit from government schemes.
