Sindhushree Khullar's name being considered after Vinod Rai demits office on May 22

After the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Vinod Rai demits office on May 22, Planning Commission secretary Sindhushree Khullar’s name is being considered for the post.

The UPA wants to appoint a woman for the top audit job. Prime minister Manmohan Singh has entrusted the task of selecting the new CAG to finance minister P Chidambaram. It was Chidambaram who chose Rai then.

Sindhushree Khullar served as a private secretary to Chidambaram and her husband Rahul Khullar is considered a confidant of the PM.

Others in the race are cabinet secretary Ajit Seth and the just superannuated telecom secretary R Chandrasekhar. The PMO wants non controversial official Ajit Seth to stay till LS polls. Union home secretary RK Singh is fourth in the slot.
