Do you agree with the EC’s order to cover all statues of UP CM Mayawati and her party symbol elephant?

GN Bureau | January 09 2012

The Election Commission (EC) of India on Sunday issued directives to have all statues of UP chief minister Mayawati and that of her party symbol, the elephant, covered ahead of the polls in the state.

EC directive entails covering of about 11 statues of Mayawati (nine at Lucknow park and two at Noida) and 77 elephants (25 at Lucknow and 52 at Noida) which, if not impossible, is a humongous task for UP officials, the practicality of which is questionable.
Do you think the EC’s order is straitjacketed interpretation of the law?

The statues of Smt Mayavati and her party' symbol elephant were installed much before the announcement of Election notification by the EC and as such it has no right to order their wrapping in the name of level playing. Rather, any advere publicity may go in her favour.

Installing statues is the easiest/efficient way to campaign for BSP candidates.
Mayawati might have learned from Gandhi/Nehru statues installed by Congress party throughout India.

The EC is pro-Indira Congress party,as the many Nehru,Rajiv and Indira Gandhi names of many institutions,in the nation, will also have to be removed to be fair on the part of the so called EC.
